Tom Bryden
Environmental Monitoring Scientist
Tom joined IGI in 2025 to help expand the environmental monitoring business. His work focuses on integrating environmental data from diverse sources into a unified platform to generate useful insights. This includes data spanning different spatial and temporal scales, from manually collected data samples (e.g. lab tested, citizen science contributions, etc.) to continuous data streams from electronic sensors. These datasets also cover a wide range of environmental parameters (e.g. water, soil, air quality, etc.). With a background in modelling and electronics, Tom brings expertise to the challenge of integrating such varied data types to generate useful insights.
Prior to joining IGI, Tom completed a PhD in battery technology at the University of Southampton in 2018. He then worked as a researcher at Hitachi (2018–2022), where he explored innovative business models in the sustainability sector. This was followed by a position as a senior research associate at the University of Oxford (2022–2025), focusing on real-time simulation and electronics.
Outside of work, Tom is an avid hobbyist / tinkerer, often playing with new ideas in his home workshop. He also enjoys long distance trekking and is steadily making his way along the National Trails of England and Wales.
