PVT Foundation Partnership

PVT data is essential for reservoir engineers to understand the properties and behaviour of oil and gas in the subsurface.

It provides the necessary information on the reservoir fluids phase behaviour and composition needed for reservoir development and production planning. The is are also critical for Petroleum Geochemists and Petroleum System Analysts as input to basin and migration models, to identify potential mixing, or explain possible migration paths. With the data being widely used within companies by different expert groups it is important that it can be accessed easily throughout the organisation.

We want to open up PVT data to our existing users of Metis and extend support to other groups who need to manage and maintain sample level subsurface data. In collaboration with Calsep a leading provider of PVT simulation services and the company behind PVTsim Nova we are starting a three-year PVT foundation partnership.

Starting in 2024, and over the next three years IGI and Calsep will develop a new PVT module for Metis with the aim to:

  • Increase collaboration between Petroleum System Analysts (PSA’s) and reservoir engineers.

  • Provide data where it’s used through easy data and model discovery.

  • Build efficient integrated workflows.

  • Effectively manage PVT data by integrating with others systems, such as systems of record and the OSDU.

  • Begin to automate data import so it’s no longer a manual time consuming process.

All this goes beyond the original scope of Metis as a geochemistry data management system, as such joining the PVT foundation partnership will be additional cost for clients. The PVT foundation partnership is open to existing clients who want to improve how they manage PVT data or new clients who are considering using Metis to manage their sample data.
