Integrating Geophysical and Geological Models for De-risking Hydrocarbon Exploration – a Rio-del-Rey Basin Case Study

The results of an integrated geological, geophysical and geochemical study undertaken by Glencore to de-risk the Bolongo Licence, offshore Cameroon, will be presented at the 78th EAGE Conference & Exhibition in Vienna (30th May-2nd June 2016). Glencore Exploration Cameroon Ltd, operator of the Bolongo License, successfully applied a geophysical exploration methodology to unlock prospective hydrocarbon resources through the use of geophysical and geochemical data and ground truthed geological models.
The case study presented demonstrates the efficiency of integrating geological, geophysical and geochemical methods in understanding the petroleum system for de-risking prospectivity.
In this integrated multi-disciplinary work, IGI Ltd performed the geochemical studies. These started with the conception of analytical programs for the samples and included the interpretation of source rock, oil and gas data (stable isotopes, bulk and molecular composition, biomarkers) and building and calibrating 1D-models to tie geochemical and ground-truthed geological models.
