It is with great sadness that we have to pass on the news that Chris Cornford, Director and founder of IGI Ltd., passed away in the early hours of Saturday 4th November.
He fought prostate cancer with positivity and dignity, and died peacefully at home with all his family as he had wished. True to his character, he remained engaged and interested in both family and work activities right to the end.
Chris, with his wife Sally, set up IGI in 1983. From a small start, over the years the company has grown into an internationally highly-respected business, largely due to Chris’ hard work, innovative ideas and strength & breadth of knowledge in the field. Besides being a great scientist, Chris was a real mentor to the people he worked with at IGI, caring passionately about our development and learning; he always made time to discuss and support our work. Ideas abounded, and very many of our clients have benefited from his innovative thinking.
IGI Ltd. will continue to provide the same high quality scientific work and products, continuing Chris’ legacy with the same spirit and enthusiasm. Day-to-day management of the company had been gradually passed on to others over the last five years or so, allowing Chris to focus on the aspect he most loved – technical excellence and innovation in petroleum geochemistry & petroleum systems analysis.
We will miss Chris enormously, but we also recognize that the global geochemical community has lost a respected and popular figurehead. When he became aware that he was not going to meet you again, he wanted to write to you all to express his thanks for your companionship during projects, conferences, field trips and professional meetings. You were all true friends and colleagues who Chris really valued.
Thank you for your friendship and support.
